Schizandra chinensis, literally translated 'five flavor berry', can act as an astringent for colds, asthma, night sweats and chronic diarrhea. It has also been used as a tonic for the treatment of chronic fatigue.

Schizandra chinensis has notable clinically documented liver protecting effects. The primary liver protecting and immuno-modulating constituents are the lignans schizandrin, deoxyschizandrin, gomisins, and pregomisin which are found in the seeds of the fruit.

NOTE:  It should not be used by pregnant women.
